Tips on How to prepare for your photo session

What to wear:  You may bring as many clothing changes to your portrait session as you like.  If you bring too many, you may find that you are spending too much tme changing and not enough time in front of the camera where the fun is.  3 - 4 outfits will give you a good variety of portraits.

For traditional portraits, choose something classic that won't be out of style in a few years.  Avoid large or bold patterns and bright colors that might draw attention away from the face.

After the formal portraits, switch gears and change into something your friends will recognize you in. Wear casual contemporary styles. Plan to dress from head to toe, including socks or stockings and shoes appropriate to the outfit.  Be sure your clothing fits and feels great.  Clothes that are too small will make you look uncomfortable in the photographs. Dressing for your portrait session includes preparing your hair, eyes and skin. Your eyes are the center point of interest. Eye shadow should be applied lightly and with care. Use two coats of mascara on upper and lower lashes.  Although blemishes are removed in your finished portraits, you will enjoy your previews more if you use a cover-stick.

For guys:  A week-old haircut photographs best, and avoid a new hair style. If you wear glasses, you may want to ask your optician to lend you a pair of empty frames. Lenses catch light reflections and distort facial features.  Contact are not a problem.

What else to do:  Avoid sunburn or deep tans.  A little color is attractive, but stay out of the sun a few days prior to your scheduled date.  It's tough to take the redness out of a sunburn, even with retouching.

Express yourself:  Bring anything that might personalize your photographs. Cars, sports equipment, pets, and musical instruments help bring out your personality in photographs. You may want to bring a friend or a parent to help you change outfits and watch for hair out of place.

Have Fun!  If you are having fun, you will look great!
