What to wear for your Engagement Portraits
Clothing Styles
Wear clothing styles that compliment each other. For
example, both should wear "business casual" or both should wear "dressy
informal" (shorts, tank tops, and old ripped or branded clothing is all that
great for engagement portraits). If one person is dressed more formally and
another is very casual, it will look like you just met and don't necessarily
belong together.
Your choice for clothing may also depend on the
location of your portrait. You may want more formal clothing for indoor
portraits but more of a dressy casual for outdoor portraits.
Clothing Colors for your Engagement Portrait
When choosing clothing colors and styles for your
engagement portraits you don't want to look like twins, but you do want to look
as if you belong together.
Ensure that your colors blend in with each other,
such as different shades of the same color or a light color with a dark color. You
generally can't go wrong with medium to dark shades of blue or brown. Be sure to
coordinate your colors so that they do not clash. Avoid wearing clothing
with checks, strong stripes, wording/slogans or that is very bright or has busy patterns.
Clothing Comfort and Fit
Ensure that you wear comfortable clothing. You
will only look as comfortable as you feel and how you feel will be reflected in
your engagement portraits. Women might want to
wear pants with long sleeves and men might want to wear khaki pants with a
buttoned shirt. Long sleeves are generally better than short sleeves for
portraits.
